Wahoo
Acanthocybium solandri
Wahoo are blisteringly fast, hard-fighting predators known for their aggressive strikes, razor-sharp teeth, and long, torpedo-like bodies. Found in warm offshore waters along Australia’s northern and eastern coasts, they often patrol reef edges, drop-offs, and current lines, ambushing baitfish with incredible speed.
These fish are best targeted using high-speed trolling with deep-diving lures, skirted lures, or rigged baits, as well as high-speed spinning with metal jigs. Wahoo can reach speeds of over 80 km/h (50 mph), making them a thrilling catch as they strip line off reels in lightning-fast bursts. Highly prized for both their sporting challenge and excellent eating quality, Wahoo are a dream target for offshore anglers looking for high-speed action.
