Tuna

Tuna (family: Scombridae) are large, fast-swimming pelagic fish found in the open ocean. These fish are highly prized by anglers for their strength and speed, as well as for their delicious, rich meat. There are several species of tuna found in Australian waters, including Yellowfin Tuna, Southern Bluefin Tuna, and Bigeye Tuna. Tuna are highly migratory, traveling long distances across the oceans in search of food. They are carnivorous predators, feeding primarily on small fish, squid, and other marine life. Due to their size and strength, Tuna can put up an incredible fight when hooked, often making fast, powerful runs. Anglers target Tuna by trolling with large lures, live bait, or dead bait, often using heavy tackle due to the size and power of the fish. For experienced anglers, Tuna can also be caught using fly fishing techniques, with large streamers imitating baitfish. Tuna fishing often requires offshore trips in deep water, far from the coast. The best time to fish for Tuna is during the warmer months, particularly in the summer and early autumn. Prime fishing locations include the waters off southern and eastern Australia, including Tasmania, New South Wales, and the Southern Ocean.
