Blue Marlin

The blue marlin is one of the most powerful and prized game fish, renowned for its explosive speed, deep diving strength, and spectacular aerial displays. Found in warm offshore waters along Australia’s east and west coasts, they are a highly sought-after target for sportfishers, particularly in the Coral Sea, off Cairns, and along the continental shelf.

These apex predators hunt tuna, mahi-mahi, and flying fish, making them prime targets for trolled skirted lures, rigged dead baits, and live bait fishing. Blue marlin can grow well over 400kg (880 lbs), testing an angler’s skill, endurance, and gear to the limit. Known for their aggressive strikes and long, blistering runs, they provide one of the most thrilling fights in offshore fishing, making them a dream catch for big-game anglers.
